Sisters in Crime

Hello again readers!

Today will be back to back posts to do justice to my aim of two posts a month going forward. I'll be talking about an organization that I'm a member of called Sisters in Crime. Another idea from my wonderful mentor, that I may make into a series because this organization and a couple others I'm apart of, have a lot to offer, and it would be nice to take my time and dive deeper in them here.

I found out about Sisters in Crime a few years ago while I was at my local library. I was scanning through the author biography portion of books, and one in particular mentioned the author being apart of Sisters in Crime. The name sparked my curiosity and I wanted to know more about what it was. I took a look at the organization's web page when I got home that day, but honestly that was about it.

Yet, Sisters in Crime never left my mind. A couple of years later, I revisited the page and decided to join fully in January 2024. The organization is open to anybody and everybody, writer or not. I paid my dues and signed up for the newsletter to keep up with the happenings of the organization. I've been a member for three years now. And wonderfully so, the year I joined, Sisters in Crime launched their mentorship program. I've been fortunate enough to have been matched each year thus far. I've had three fabulous women guide and encourage me in their own unique ways. They've been so wonderfully enriching to my development as a writer.

While this has been the biggest benefit for me, there's also other juicy benefits that come with your membership. One in particular I've also taken apart of are write-ins, proctored by other members, where we just write for an hour. It's a quiet virtual gathering, where in the end you can share with the group what you've been working on if you want. But it feels nice to get into a space and mindset with others like you, just wanting to be in our own worlds together.
